In dentistry at the moment, oral implants have never been more desirable! Many people are seeking them as a more secure form of dentures, to help them retain functionality of their mouths. Also, aesthetically, oral implants can be matched to an individual’s natural teeth, making them look more realistic. Perfect!

However, while most people are aware of how dentures are made, or even how root canals are performed, few people are aware of how oral implants are fitted, leading to many people questioning if the fitting is uncomfortable.

At High Dental Implants Melbourne, our cosmetic dentists will ensure that when we fit your oral implants, the process will be comfortable and we will answer any questions you may have about the treatment. We pride ourselves on being completely open with our patients, ensuring that you are fully aware of how each treatment is going to be performed.

So, what is involved in having oral implants fitted at High Dental Implants Melbourne? Read on to find out!

Initial consultation

At High Dental Implants Melbourne, it is our aim to help you improve your smile.

However, while we would love to fit all of our patients who request implants with them, not everyone is suitable for them.

When you come to the initial consultation with our team, an examination of your mouth will be performed, to assess the condition of your gums, any remaining teeth, and your jaws. We will also require an X-ray to be performed on your jaws, to help our team assess your suitability for implants based on the condition and density of the bones.

If deemed suitable for implants, we will invite your back for the next stage in the fitting process. If you are seen as unsuitable, don’t worry! Our team will still be able to offer you restorative options to give you that winning smile you deserve.

The fitting

After your mouth is numbed with local anaesthetic, our dentists will gently cut into and peel back your gums in pre-designated areas.

Once the bone is exposed, they will drill small holes into your jaw(s) to fit the metal implant(s).

When they are satisfied that the implants are fitted correctly, they will sew your gums back up with dissolvable stitches.

The area will be tender for a while but don’t worry! This step is not painful and any excessive pain experienced after the fitting should be investigated immediately.

Prosthetics

Between 3-6 months after your implants were fitted, provided that your jawbone has grown around them successfully, your prosthetic tooth or teeth can be fitted.

This step is exceedingly simple and can be completed in a one-hour appointment!

Aftercare

Once your new teeth are in place, you will need to take care of them.

Brush and floss as you would normally and attend dental check-ups every 6 months. Avoid smoking and your new teeth will last a very long time!
