At High Dental Implants Melbourne, our team has helped thousands of patients restore their smiles using oral implants. Our staff are all highly trained in the fitting of oral implants and know all there is to know about these ever-popular restoratives. Great!

Below, our team answers common queries that we receive about dental implants Melbourne, so enjoy!

Do oral implants hurt?

In a word, no.

Dental implants Melbourne are painless to have fitted, as we numb you before we begin, and once you are at home afterwards, the sensation should be manageable with over the counter pain relief such as paracetamol.

If you are experiencing extensive soreness, please call our team for an emergency appointment.

How long does the fitting take?

The fitting of oral implants can be quite long but on average, it takes about 1-2 hours for our team to fit a single implant.

If you are having multiple implants fitted, we may spread the fittings over a period of 2 weeks or longer, so your mouth will have a chance to heal.

Is the aftercare difficult?

Once your implants have been fitted, a key thing to keep an eye out for is infection.

While it is unlikely, oral infections can create severe complications for implants and can even lead to issues with them fusing. So if you spot signs of infection, such as swelling, discolouration or notice discomfort, contact our team immediately.

But overall, the aftercare of having oral implants fitted is not too tricky; be careful when brushing any natural teeth you have, take pain relief as and when required (we recommend using paracetamol) and of course, keep the site clean to prevent infections from occurring.

If you are unsure about any part of the aftercare of your implants, please talk to our team.

How do I keep my implants clean?

After they have been fitted and your mouth is healing, you can keep them clean by gargling or rinsing the areas with saltwater. For the first few days, you should use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean any surrounding teeth that you have and be very gentle! Your gums are going to be sore and inflamed, so take care not to aggravate them.

Long term, once you have your dental crowns put on or the prosthetics, you can care for them in the same way as you did your natural teeth; just brush them twice a day and keep an eye out for secondary complications like gum disease.

How long will they last?

If you care for your oral implants correctly and stay in regular contact with our team, your oral implants can easily last up to and over 15 years.

Remember, this will mean cleaning them daily, attending biannual check-ups, keeping an eye out for things like gum disease and ensuring that none of them are loose.

If you suspect that your implants have come loose, then please call our team as soon as possible for a check-up.
