Dental implants; FAQs answered
Do you have some questions about oral implants?
At High Dental Implants, our team has the expertise to answer any question about dental implants Melbourne, ensuring that you have all of the information needed to make the best choice about your dental care.
Here, our team answers some of the more general questions that we receive about dental implants Melbourne.
Does having oral implants fitted hurt?
While discomfort is subjective, having dental implants Melbourne fitted will not be uncomfortable when you come to our team.
We will ensure that your gum and mouth are numbed before we begin the process and will advise you on suitable pain relief for when you are at home. Generally, this will be paracetamol and you should avoid ibuprofen or aspirin, as these can thin the blood and can cause issues with bruising.
Are implants expensive?
A key area that puts many patients off the idea of having implants fitted is the cost.
When you come to us, our team can offer our suitable patients 0% financing options to help you break down the cost of oral implants into affordable monthly repayments.
That way, you can enjoy your brand new, functioning smile without having to worry about the bill!
Can I have a denture secured with implants?
Yes, you can!
Many of our patients have been able to secure a set of dentures using oral implants and we are happy to look into this option with patients who already wear dentures.
This will involve placing a set of implants into the mouth to act as an anchor for the dentures. Alternatively, if you have a bridge that you want to have secured, we can discuss this option with you too, provided that you have enough jawbone to support the implants.
How long is the healing time for oral implants?
The implant fitting procedure breaks down into many parts.
After you have had the implants fitted, it can take up to a month for the gum line around the implant site to heal.
But, as the key component of having implants fuse successfully is osseointegration (where the titanium in the implant fuses to the bone), this process can take between 3-6 months and will be monitored by our team using X-rays. Once the implant has fused and the gums have healed, our team will book you in to have your prosthetic tooth or teeth attached, completing the treatment and closing the gaps. Great!
Will they last for the rest of my life?
It is highly likely that with correct maintenance and aftercare that your oral implants will last for at least 15 years and could last for the rest of your life.
That means brushing, flossing and rinsing your mouth twice a day, attending dental check-ups twice a year and keeping an eye out for signs of gum disease.
However, if you have an underlying health condition such as osteoporosis, this may impact the longevity of your implants. You may also have the lifespan of your implants shortened if you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. For more information relating to smoking cessation or contraindicated health issues and oral implants, please talk to our team.
