We want to inform all of our patients as much as possible, allowing them to make the best choices they can about their dental care, even if it may simply seem cosmetic! Brilliant!

So, what are some of the top FAQs our team is asked about dental implants in Melbourne? Read on to find out!

Will my oral implants fail?

It is statistically unlikely that your dental implants in Melbourne will fail.

Statistically, implants are successful in 98% of cases but this depends on how smoothly those 3-6 months of fusing go.

If you have worries that your implants are failing (if they feel wobbly or are moving), as always, contact our team.

Will the fitting be uncomfortable?

No; our team at High Dental will ensure that your mouth is numb before we begin the process.

You may feel something akin to pressure when we are fitting the implant(s), but this is to be expected. Once the numbing agent wears off, you may feel a sensation similar to an extraction in your mouth but this should be manageable with over the counter pain relief.

If it isn’t, book an appointment to see our team as you may have an infection.

Will they become infected?

It is a risk with all surgery that the site may become infected.

However, we can help you to prevent this; we will draw up a treatment/recovery plan once your implants are fitted, to help the site heal and the implants fuse. Of course, if you suspect that you have an infection forming, contact our team immediately.

How do I look after them once they are fitted?

Once your implants are fitted, (the titanium screws), you will need to treat the implant site with a bit of TLC.

No rough brushing and no hard foods for a few days or weeks, as this can irritate the site and cause the implants to come loose. But, once the site has healed and your implant is fusing under the surface, keep the area clean by brushing it twice a day and using a gentle mouthwash.

Are there other options?

Yes, there are but we have found that most people are suitable for oral implants.

We will only consider you non-suitable for oral implants if you have substantial jaw bone loss or you have already failed with this procedure.

In this case, we will use methods such as fitted bridges or dentures to restore the function and aesthetics of your smile.
