Want to know more about how dental implants are fitted? Our brief guide from High Dental
Are you fed up with having a gap in your teeth but have heard that oral implants are difficult to fit?
Oral implants have changed the way we think about restorative dental care, with more people than ever before opting for them over other options like dentures and bridges. They are secured to your jaw via surgery, so they won’t move and don’t need adhesives to hold them in place.
When you come to High Dental Implants in Melbourne, you will receive the best treatment possible. We have helped numerous patients with the fitting of oral implants and can help you get a cosmetic and functional result that you will be happy with.
What is involved in the fitting of dental implants in Melbourne? Our team provides a brief guide below.
The consultation
It is important to note from the beginning that most people are suitable for dental implants in Melbourne.
But, just to be sure, we will offer you a consultation where we can assess the health of your mouth to ensure you are suited. At this consultation, we will also take X-Rays to check the strength of your jaw; if there is an insufficient amount of bone, we may attempt a bone graft.
If you have a degenerative bone issue, we will discuss this with you at the consultation.
The fitting
OK, so onto the bit most people who are having oral implants are interested in; the fitting itself.
Firstly, we will ensure that your jaw is numbed before we begin, but as a note, you will likely feel some pressure throughout the fitting.
We will then make some incisions into your gum line and gently pull it back in the areas where the implants are to be fitted. A small drill will then be used to create an area for the implant(s) to be fitted; depending on how many we are fitting, this delicate process can take up to an hour.
Once the hole is drilled, we will then begin fitting the implant; again, this is very technical and can take a bit of time, usually 45 minutes per implant.
When we are happy that it has been secured, we then sew the gum up around the implant site and it is done!
There is now a period of between 3-6 months where the implant has to fuse to the bone.
Prosthetics
There are many different types of prosthetic teeth that can be fitted once your oral implants are fitted.
And, whether you need a single tooth fitted or are looking to have an entire set of dentures fitted, we can help. The prosthetics which are made for you will be colour matched to seamlessly blend in with your surrounding teeth; alternatively, if you are having an entire set of dentures fitted, we can create them in whichever shade of white you want.
The fitting of the prosthetics usually occurs in 1 session and this session can take up to an hour.
