Common myths debunked about dental implants Melbourne
Have you heard that oral implants fall out? Has this put you off from having them fitted?
At High Dental, our team is up to date on all things related to the fitting and fusing of dental implants Melbourne, and we will always aim to answer any questions or concerns you have about the procedure.
With that in mind, in this article, our team debunks common myths that we have heard and read about dental implants Melbourne.
The fitting is uncomfortable
The fitting of dental implants Melbourne is not uncomfortable, as our team will numb the area before we begin.
Once you are at home afterwards, you will probably need to take over-the-counter pain relief to mitigate the sensations, which should only last for a few days. If the discomfort worsens or you begin to feel unwell, please call our team as soon as possible.
The implants will fall out!
As they are attached to the jaw and can take up to 3 months to fuse, many people worry that with a slight jolt to the jaw, the implants will fall out.
But don’t worry! Even newly fitted implants should not fall out and if you suspect that yours are wobbling, you should aim to see our team as soon as possible to have the underlying cause assessed. Delaying this step can result in the implants fusing at an odd angle, so be sure to report anything odd to us!
The prosthetics don’t look real
Many people have concerns that the prosthetics that are attached to the implants will not look real. Of course, this is nonsense! The idea behind the process is to restore teeth, not to make them look fake.
Our team will aim to shape, colour, and size match the implants in your mouth to blend with any remaining natural teeth that you have. If you have a set of dentures attached to the implants, then you can have your prosthetic teeth as bright and as white as you want!
They don’t last very long
With correct aftercare, oral implants can easily last up to and over 15 years.
Luckily, the aftercare is easy, with the main areas being based on brushing, flossing and attending check-ups with our team. Provided that you do this and refrain from smoking or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, your oral implants should last a long time, with no wobbling or premature loss.
You can’t have implants if you have a thin jaw
This is a more complicated answer.
You can have oral implants fitted if you have a thin jaw, but they will not be endosteal implants.
Endosteal implants are the standard, screw-like implant that is fitted into your jaw, and in order for them to fuse, you have to have a thick and healthy jawbone. But if you don’t meet these clinical specifications, all is not lost! You may be able to have a subperiosteal, zygomatic or mini implant fitted instead, so talk to our team to learn more.
