Signs of an issue with dental implants post-fitting
When you have just had your oral implants fitted, you will probably feel a bit of soreness and a lot of excitement.
Oral implants are one of the most suitable restoratives for missing teeth, especially if you are an older person, and they can help you avoid common issues that can be found with other restoratives, such as rubbing dentures or wobbly bridges.
However, even when the implants are fitted, you are not out of the woods yet. Things can still go wrong and it is important to be vigilant about your aftercare to help your implants to fuse.
At High Dental Implants, our team has been helping patients to restore their smiles using dental implants Melbourne for several years, and we are proud to consider ourselves experts in this area of restorative dental care. So, if you want implants fitted, or have any issues with previously fitted implants, please come to us.
With that in mind, it is worth knowing what the common signs are if there is an issue with your dental implants Melbourne, so here, our team has come up with a list of symptoms and signs to keep an eye out for.
Discomfort
When you have just had dental implants Melbourne fitted, some discomfort is normal. After all, the fitting of oral implants is surgery, and our team may have needed to make multiple incisions into your gum to fit the restoratives.
But, if the discomfort worsens, or spreads once the implants have been fitted, rather than recedes, then you will need to see our team. Persistent discomfort post-fitting can point to an infection.
Movement
Your oral implants, even if they are brand new, should not be moving. They are carefully fitted to your jawbone, and once they have been placed, the surrounding gum is sewn up to add extra security.
If the implants are moving, then our team will need to be contacted as soon as possible, to assess the reason for the wobbling, and to correct it if we can.
Bleeding
Once again, some bleeding after an oral implant fitting is going to be common, and for the first few days, it should not be a concern, unless it is excessive. With that in mind, if you also notice gradual bleeding that is not stopping, or keeps coming back, then you will need to contact us to have the stitches assessed and to allow us to check for infection.
Fever
You should at no point in the healing process from oral implants have a fever, unless something is wrong. A fever is a sign of infection and, if left untreated, you could lose your implant and potentially you could become seriously ill. So, if you notice a fever, feeling ill, being sick or excessive soreness from your implant, you need to call us as soon as possible.
Odd position
If you notice that your implant is fusing in an odd position, our team will need to be contacted for an assessment. This will allow us to correct the issue and decide as to why it has occurred.
