Caring for dental implants Melbourne; a guide from High Dental Implants Melbourne
Are you intrigued about having oral implants fitted but want to know what is involved in the aftercare before committing? Look no further!
At High Dental Implants Melbourne, we have been helping patients to look after their newly fitted dental implants Melbourne for over half a decade and are always eager to provide pointers on keeping these restoratives healthy!
So, what are some of our tips for looking after newly fitted dental implants Melbourne? Read on to find out!
Eating
After dental surgery of any kind, it is likely that you aren’t going to want to eat hard foods, as your gums will likely be sore and swollen.
But when it comes to recovering from surgery for dental implants Melbourne, our team generally advises our patients to avoid hard, salty or spicy foods for at least 2 weeks after the fitting to ensure that the gums heal and that the implants fuse at the correct angle.
We also advise our patients to eat nutritious foods, like vegetables, soups and fruits, to help their bodies recover after the implantation.
Drinking
Drinking alcohol, in general, is a bit of a no-no when you are looking to maintain good oral health, as alcohol in excess can cause the gums to shrink back and expose the underside of the teeth to the mouth. Not a great look!
When you are recovering from oral implant surgery, you will need to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and help with the recovery process. Try to avoid sugary drinks, as they can aggravate your gums, and aim to give up alcohol for at least 2 weeks while your gums heal.
Cleaning
How do you keep newly fitted implants clean? With saltwater!
Rather than applying pressure to your implants with a toothbrush, we generally advise our patients to clean the implant site with salt water to remove debris and food.
Refrain from using mouthwash for a few days and continue to brush your teeth as you usually would, taking care not to knock your implant.
Infection control
There is always a risk with surgery that the site will become infected, and, unfortunately, when it comes to oral surgery, that risk can jump up!
Keep an eye out for signs of infection around the implant site, such as unusual swelling, discolouration, the presence of pus, offensive smelling or tasting breath and, of course, feeling unwell.
If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact our team for urgent treatment.
Checkups
After you have had oral implants fitted, you will need to see our team regularly for checkups. This is so we can ensure that the implants are fusing and not infected and, of course, that they are being cared for correctly.
It is of high importance that you attend these checkups; issues with the early fusing of implants, while rare, can cause the implants to fall out, come loose or fuse at an odd angle. So, if you have an appointment with our team, please attend it!
If you have specific concerns relating to your newly fitted oral implants, then remember, all you have to do is call our team at High Dental Implant Melbourne for advice or an appointment!
