OK, you’re online and you’re looking for a way to close that gap in your smile.dental-implants-melbourne

And of course, you have considered dentures, bridges and have finally settled on the idea of having oral implants fitted. Great stuff!

But if you are like most dental patients, you will have considered this option, looked at a rough estimate of how the procedure costs, scoffed and decided that it can’t possibly cost that much money to fit them! Why is the procedure so seemingly expensive?

In this article, we finally break down the reasons why oral implants can be so pricey, so you can get a better idea of what we as dental professionals put into them.

At High Dental Implants Melbourne, we know all about oral implants (as our name suggests) and know how to fit them, how to care for them and how to help you make them last as long as possible, keeping your smile and eating habits intact. Great!

But back to the original point of the article, why are dental implants Melbourne so seemingly costly? Read on to find out.

Prepping procedures

First things first, when it comes to having dental implants Melbourne fitted, you’ve got to have a lot of prep work done to ascertain your suitability. Typically, this will involve x-rays, CT scans and of course, an in-depth dental check-up.

But, should we find that you do not have the required jaw bone needed to have oral implants fitted, our team may suggest a bone graft. This is done using bone from either your foot or chin, which is then grafted onto the jaw where the implant will be fitted to fuse. This is quite a timely procedure and can be done by our team in the clinic.

If all goes as planned, your bone graft will be healed in around 3-9 months and we can begin with the placement of the implant.

The surgery

Next comes the surgery to fit the implant.

This surgery is once again quite time-consuming and can take our team up to 2 hours to fit a single implant in place. Depending on when the tooth that is being replaced was lost, our team may be able to use an already vacant socket or may have to drill a new one into your jaw, which can make the surgery a bit more labour intensive.

Once the implant(s) has been fitted, we will close the gums and may start you on a course of prophylactic antibiotics.

The aftercare

Aftercare for having oral implants fitted is pretty straightforward; don’t eat hard food, avoid spice and take paracetamol to manage any discomfort you may have.

You will also need to keep an eye out for signs of infection; if you spot any, please contact our team immediately for the same day appointment.

But you will need to come in and see our team every few weeks; during these appointments, we may perform follow-up x-rays and other oral assessments to ensure that the implants have settled.

The prosthetic teeth

Depending on whether you are having a single crown replaced, a bridge or even a set of dentures, our team will need to create them for you to your specifications; if you want a more natural-looking crown for your implant, we can offer it and of course, if you want a Hollywood smile, we can create that for you too!
